January: New Year Fast
We want to invite you to join us for a time of prayer and fasting this month to consecrate our new year to the Lord and intentionally seek His heart and words for us individually. We feel like 2020 and the decade we’re entering is going to be significant for Christ’s kingdom worldwide and we want to have eyes to see and ears to hear. Whether you choose to fast certain foods or other daily activities, the heart of fasting is union with our Father, not a rigid exercise to dread.
John Piper says it well:
There is an appetite for God. And it can be awakened. I invite you to turn from the dulling effects of food and the dangers of idolatry, and to say with some simple fast: “This much, O God, I want you.” For when God is the supreme hunger of your heart, He will be supreme in everything. And when you are most satisfied in Him, He will be most glorified in you.
Like us, you may be feeling excited about the new year; yet overwhelmed with the busyness that is coming or in the unknown season that you are entering. Please don’t let this fast become a task or one more way to hustle. Ask Jesus what He wants this time to look like and pursue Him in that. And remember you have a Father longing to draw near and help.
Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you. Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)
We’re clinging to this passage in our own current season.
Eyes on Me. I will help you.
